Brief History:
Fifty two years have passed since Micro Biological Laboratory, Inc. (MICROLAB) first engaged in the manufacture of prepared microscope slides for educational purposes. Since then, MICROLAB has expanded and evolved to become one of the Philippines leading supplier of quality medical, hospital, laboratory, research and industrial instruments.

Setting the Stage for a Corporate Legacy
MICROLAB traces its roots to Hans Arber, a swiss national with a profession, Mr. Arber was an aspiring scientist as a student in Switzerland. As his work later brought him to Asia, Mr. Arber developed a new-found interest in microtechnique. While in the Philippines, he began to prepare slides of algae as hobby.

In 1960, encouraged by Dr. Gregorio Velasquez of the University of the Philippines, he took the opportunity to transform what was then a mere hobby into a full-fledged business enterprise and established MICROLAB. Assisted by one technician and one helper, Mr. Arber began commercial manufacture and distribution of biological slides for high schools and colleges throughout the Philippines.

With the establishment of MICROLAB, Mr. Arber set the stage for what is now one of the most successful enterprises in medical, laboratory, research, and industrial instruments in the Philippines.

Evolving and Expanding for New Horizons
MICROLAB has evolved to respond to new challenges in the industry in various ways. In 1965, MICROLAB began to venture into the international market. It expanded its operations to supply prepared microscope slides to the United States and the United Kingdom in 1975. International expansion continued and MICROLAB established its market in Saudi Arabia in 1985. In 1971, Vicente Mercado joined MICROLAB as a sales supervisor. With his arrival, MICROLAB developed new product lines, particularly industrial and laboratory equipment. In 1979, MICROLAB was incorporated with key employees as shareholders. During this period, Vicente Mercado, Mr. Arberís assistant, introduced the concept of indent sales a no stock, sales-on-brochure strategy, which has since spelled greater success for the corporation.
